Capturing emotions and memories is what I love about photography. When H + Y got in touch about doing a photo shoot with their elderly pet dog it sounded simple. And there is so much beauty in simple.

Slinky is H + Y’s fur baby. Joining the newlyweds a year after their wedding (is that still newlywed?!) at just 4 months, she was there for the pregnancies. She was there to welcome both babies home. She was there watching them grow and growing with them. But dogs age faster than humans and aged 13 Slinky stopped eating and didn’t seem to have energy for much H + Y realised that their time with her was coming to a close. H got in touch about documentary photos as a reminder of the joyful times, so they could have some tangible memories to hold and to share. And, more importantly, they could all be fully present in creating those memories.

When I arrived at the new family home Slinky was excited to see me. She perked right up and was happy to go for a walk with the family. H + Y brought a wagon in case Slinky decided not to walk anymore, but wow did she love every bit of the walk (out and in the wagon!). As we walked I could tell Slinky was looking a bit sad, but she soldiered on as though she knew these moments were important to her family.

The last photo in the gallery below where the youngest gives Slinky a kiss sums it all up beautifully.

Slinky was loved by so many, and especially by her family. She passed away not long after this photo session, and is at peace in puppy heaven now.

And for the family she left behind? She left them some amazing memories and photos to cherish.

Hugs!
