A home is different than a house. Home is the backdrop to so many memories of the best kind of time – family time.
What an honour to document life in the family home, before it becomes another family’s home. The family have lived here for years (the kids literally walked to University when living here!) but they’ve moved away and it’s time for the parents to downsize.
Sandra, one of the daughters, was flying in from Europe for a visit and got in touch with me to do a surprise documentary family photo session for her parents of everyone in the family home. After talking with her on the phone we agreed on a photojournalistic style.
Their family home is filled with so many wonderful memories. Beautifully spacious and in a wonderful location, it was easy for me to imagine how fantastic a home it would have been to grow up in. There were some key elements of home life; Dad playing the beauitful grand piano while the family listened; Mom curled up on her favourite armchair to read; the kitchen, always the heart of a family home.
And it was also a chance to capture some memories for the new generation. The granddaughter had a fantastic time running around in the gorgeous backyard and it was such a treat to see and hear the family singing to her to encourage her to dance.
This is a beautiful reminder that home is where the heart is. But home is so much more than a house, it’s that feeling of being with loved ones.
Hugs!
